Mr. Butter has fully embraced life as a photographer’s cat. He’s a natural model who knows exactly how to steal the spotlight. As my muse and practice model, he keeps my camera busy and my heart full.

Pumpkin spice? Hmm… still deciding if I love it or hate it. Better taste another one to be sure.

My Monstera plant has taken over the living room, but at least it makes a perfect “bird blind” for Mr. Butter to watch the squirrels.

My husband, Dan, used to call himself a dog person, but Mr. Butter clearly had other plans. While it was my idea to adopt a cat, Dan has fallen in love with our tailless rescue kitty.
When we first adopted a cat, some people were surprised. One friend even said she’d never heard of someone switching from a “dog person” to a “cat person.” Here’s the thing: You don’t have to pick sides. You can love both dogs and cats! The only reason we don’t have three of each is that our house is too small. We’ll get another dog someday, but Mr. Butter is basking in our full attention for now.
No cats on the counter? Hilarious!

This is his favorite perch to beg for treats. His method of begging? Looking cute, of course! Sometimes, he accidentally turns the lights on and off, which definitely gets my attention.

Mr. Butter is always hungry so you better not leave your snacks unattended!

If Mr. Butter lived in the heyday of Jello “salads,” I know he would be curious about them and get up to mischief. I started looking for vintage Jello molds for this image because my original plan was to make something Mr. Butter could sink his paws into. Then I saw the fake Jello on Etsy and realized that I could reuse them for client photoshoots, so that was the way to go.

This was Mr. Butter’s Christmas photo! He was 100% on board with getting treats just for sitting on the couch.
Playing with shadows: Capturing my cat’s mysterious side

There’s something magical about the way shadows stretch and dance as the days get shorter.

Mr. Butter is my go-to tester for photo ideas, and these origami cranes were perfect for some action shots. He found the string of cranes intriguing, but his interest faded quickly, so I tucked a dry treat into one of the bird’s wings to keep him engaged for a few more shots.
Do you have a cat? I’d love to photograph them!
