Outdoor Adventure Cat Photoshoot

Many cats love fresh air and a bit of adventure. If this describes your cat, I can photograph them outdoors in Colorado’s beautiful open spaces.

How Adventure Cat Photo Sessions Work

Adventure cat photo sessions are all about your cat’s comfort and happiness. We choose a spot near the trailhead, focusing on finding a safe, scenic place where your cat can relax.

To keep things smooth, I recommend:

  • Practice walking your cat outside with a harness and leash before the photoshoot. This helps them feel more at ease when it’s time for photos.
  • Pack some of your cat’s favorite treats for encouragement and positive reinforcement along the way.
  • Plan for plenty of breaks, so your cat always feels comfortable and never rushed.
  • A stroller can give your cat a comfortable place to rest, especially if they need a break or if a dog walks past. Bring a blanket to cover the stroller so they can feel extra safe and secure.

You can choose to keep the leash and harness in the final images, or I can retouch them out.

Before and After: The Magic of Editing

To keep things safe, cats are always kept on a harness and leash. In the behind-the-scenes photos, you’ll see the leash. It’s an essential part of ensuring your cat is secure and comfortable. However, in the finished portraits, I edit it out so that the final images appear natural. It’s one of those little bits of photo magic that lets your cat shine without distraction.

All these photos were snapped right at the trailhead, just a few steps from the parking lot. We didn’t have to go far at all! The cats had their stroller for breaks, and if a dog came by, we’d tuck them in and cover it so they could relax. The only thing that really scared them was a baby crying, but that doesn’t happen too often on the trails.

It was interesting how Silverton, the tabby, was naturally drawn to the places where he was camouflaged. I love how the scrub oaks look with his fur.

Finding plants at just the right height helps create flattering portraits. Cats who have had a little practice outside usually settle in more quickly, but every session is about working with their comfort level.

Adventure cat photo sessions show your cat enjoying the great outdoors. With a harness, leash, plenty of breaks, and treats for encouragement, your cat can safely explore while we capture their curious and playful moments. Whether they’re sitting on a rock or hiding among wildflowers, these sessions transform your adventure cat outings into lasting memories you’ll cherish.

I love this little moment from Silverton’s outdoor session. When hikers passed by, he tucked himself behind his person’s legs. It’s such a small thing, but it says so much about their bond. Silverton may be brave, but he’s still a cat!
