Why boots work so well for photoshoots
When you’re planning what to wear for a photo session, shoes can feel like an afterthought. But the right footwear makes a big difference, especially when dogs are involved.

Boots are my go-to recommendation for photo-ready footwear, and here’s why:
They’re practical.
Most sessions take place in parks, fields, or trails, where paths can be rocky, uneven, or muddy.

They look polished in photos.
Even casual boots look way better in photos than tennis shoes.

They help tell the story.
Not every portrait needs to include your face. If you’re feeling camera-shy, no problem. Just feature your boots instead.

They show scale.
Small dogs look even smaller when photographed next to boots.

I’ve often joked that you’re issued a pair of cowboy boots when you move to Colorado. It seems like part of the wardrobe requirement around here. So why not put them to good use and include them in your photos?

They keep you warm.
Shoots in fall and winter can get chilly. Boots keep your toes warm and dry, whether you’re standing in frosty grass or navigating snowdrifts. For men, cowboy boots are a great choice.

Remember: your shoes might make the shot.
I always tell people to plan for their shoes to be in the photos. If you’re going to see them, they might as well look good.
Boots not only look more elevated than sneakers, but they fit right in with Colorado’s landscape and seasons.
