Here’s a selection of Siamese cats I’ve photographed over the years.

Couscous found the perfect perch right on top of the library books!

Eva sometimes strikes this pose. I think it’s equal parts hilarious and adorable! Everyday objects can make perfect photo stages.

Small spaces, big photos
Cooper, a Flame Point Siamese, was the 5-month-old kitten when I photographed him. It took him ten minutes to come out from underneath the couch, but when he did, he sat in the most glorious sunbeam!
You don’t need a huge space for a cat photoshoot. This was a narrow, galley kitchen. I’ll help you find the most photogenic spots in your house! You don’t need a mansion for great cat portraits.
“Cats never strike a pose that isn’t photogenic.”
Lillian Jackson Braun
Capturing senior cats with care
My best tip for photographing cats in their golden years? Capture their everyday habits and favorite spots. Charlie sat in his usual spot for this portrait in front of the Christmas tree. Read more tips on my blog about photographing older cats.

Charlie, the Seal Point Siamese, was 18 years old at his photoshoot.

Lucy is a Seal Point Siamese. “Point” coloration refers to an animal coat with a pale body and darker extremities in the face, ears, feet, and tail. “Seal Point” means the cat has seal-colored (dark brown) points. Seal Point Siamese is what most people visualize when they think of Siamese cats. For example, they were the feline antagonists in Lady and the Tramp.

Working with shy or cautious cats
Tuna was extra shy and felt most comfortable on the family’s bed. I always work within each cat’s comfort zone. I usually try a combination of patience and playing off their natural curiosity.

Chili was very playful and curious about his reflection in my camera lens! Keeping play in the picture can make a session shine.
Chili is a Snowshoe Siamese, a cream and white breed with blue eyes that was first produced through the cross-breeding of the Siamese and American Shorthair in the 1960s.
Fun Fact: Grumpy Cat had some Snowshoe Siamese in her. Another Fun Fact: Grumpy Cat was a girl!
Outdoor cat portraits – safely

We thought Hobbes would run away if we let him out during his photoshoot, but he posed nicely on the fence. His family calls this his “power spot” since he can patrol four yards at once from his perch.

Siamese cats are often cross-eyed. Their eyes developed that way to compensate for a genetic flaw in their vision. It’s normal for them, and they can see fine.
